Begin your journey by picking up your car and heading to Windsor, where twinkling lights and royal charm set the tone for your Christmas adventure. Travel west to marvel at the mystical Stonehenge and Avebury, both dusted with seasonal frost and steeped in ancient wonder. Take a merry detour to the medieval city of Salisbury, where Christmas markets and cathedral carols fill the air with cheer. Continue into Somerset, then return to explore the Georgian elegance of Bath, the storybook village of Lacock, and the snow-kissed hills and stone walls of the Cotswolds — all wrapped in the warmth and magic of an English Christmas.

Itinerary

Arrive at London airport and pick up your rental car. Start exploring the Great West Way with the first stop in Windsor. Discover the festive town or visit Windsor Castle, the home of the Royal Family. And host to many royal weddings. In the evening, enjoy the magical Windsor Great Park Illuminated Christmas trail (own expense), featuring glowing woodlands, festive lights, and seasonal treats. Alternatively, visit RHS Garden Wisley Glow (own expense), where dazzling lights transform the gardens into a winter wonderland and warm drinks and festive treats await. Overnight in Windsor.
 

Continue your Great West Way journey with festive stops. Visit pre-historic Stonehenge, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before continuing to Salisbury. Take a walk around this picturesque market town and visit Salisbury Cathedral Salisbury before enjoying Christmas at Stourhead’s dazzling light trail (own expense). Nearby, the Longleat Festival of Light is perfect for families featuring lanterns, wildlife, and Wallace & Gromit (own expense). Overnight in in Salisbury.
 

Today travel straight to Bath or alternatively, leave the Great West Way and explore Somerset’s Wells and Glastonbury, then marvel at Cheddar Gorge and sample their local cheese and cider. This afternoon, continue to Bath and experience this heritage city and it’s enchanting Christmas Market with festive stalls and twinkling lights (own expense). For more seasonal cheer, head to the nearby Bristol Christmas Market (own expense). Overnight in Bath.
 

Start your day in Bath with a festive stroll and visit the historic Roman Baths. Head east through charming Cotswolds villages or Avebury’s ancient stone circle. This afternoon, arrive at your hotel in Swindon, before heading to Blenheim Palace this evening for their Christmas at Blenheim Palace (own expense) experience. Explore the dazzling Illuminated Trail, and festive market and enjoy seasonal before heading back to Swindon to stay overnight.
 

Depart Swindon and drive to London, where you will return your car and bid farewell to your festive road trip.
